Been looking at getting a satellite radio setup... either xm or sirius. Still havent decided yet. Wondering where people have mounted the actual reciever unit, and where people have mounted the antenna. Seems like theres a bunch of different styles...

I've got the XM on my trail Jeep and its great. I end up listening to one of the comedy station most of the time, and I don't miss the punch lines when I drive thru a canyon.
I have a buddy in Dallas that makes it up here to see me every couple of months and he has the sirius. He's very happy with it, so I guess its just what kinda of a deal you can get.
BTW, Mine is part of my head unit. He's is a seperate piece that slides in a holder on his dash. He also has a mount in his house so he can get his moneys worth out of the service. And he pays about 10 dollars less a month than me...
We both have the ant. stuck on the outside of the windshield with the cord just worming thru the soft top by the windshield. There are some fancy mounts now. Ours are the 'old' style.

I have the Delphi XM unit. My installer mounted it on a bracket below the ash trey. It is great for long trips. I have absolutely no complaints. The antenna is mounted through the existing port on the left hand rear of the truck. Hope this helps.

Here's where I mounted it in my Disco II:

The antenna it tucked in under whatever I could find and comes out of the panel on the right side where the cargo door opens. I have it mounted just behind the rear sunroof.

Hella FF100. Actually they are on the brush bar now:

With the lift I can't keep the rack on, but when I move out of the city in 2 years and the rack goes back on, I will buy some more so that I have 7 of these lights on the front. But there is a huge PROBLEM! On the LR rack they put huge amounts of glare on the windshield. You can still see fine, but it is super annoying.

Here is a photo of how I fixed it:

The idea was good, but the cheap plates from Home Depot started to bend and make some small dents on the roof. I suggest having a shop make you some strong metal pieces to recess the lights back.

I was just doing research on it today; XM vs Sirius on Google. Seems it's a matter of preference.
I have XM. I think that it could use some improvement, but I'm happy with the selection of stations. They do tend to repeat some stuff just as FM does. But I listen to the World Zone station alot. It's variety that you don't get on radio.
If I were to be dissatisfied with sat-radio, I'd rather be paying $9.95/mon than $12.95/mon for it.
I fabricated an antenna mount for the adventure rack. Cut a 4x4 in plate of 1/4 steel. Painted it black. Used countersunk allen screws to mate it to a swaybar bracket and bushing that fit neatly on to the rack. The bushing keeps from scratching the rack and promoting rust. Sorry I don't have pictures yet.

I prefer CD's. I sure would love to upgrade my speakers and also be able to boost the volume higher.

On the General Page (what you see before clicking to open this thread), it says that the last post made to this thread was on 11-8-08 @ 12:24 am by Axel.

However, when I come into this thread, there is no post from Axel. Just wondering what's up with that??

Is that what you see when you chose thread? Well, that was a dumb question!! (you'll see this post from me, duh!)

I'll rephrase my question, do you see a post from Axel above this post?

No big deal, I was just wondering...
Thanks, Jamie

Buy Sirius, my stock took a hit today and it needs a little boost for tomorrow :-)

Really, the market will have to either shake out or remain viable for both companies. No one can truly predict, but I think there's room for both, or a merger will result up the road. How's that for talking all around the issue?

I have Sirius through the head unit in the truck, and also have the Here2Anywhere portable unit for home and my wife's minivan.

The programming is pretty good without much repeating (or possibly because I don't stay on one station that long). Not having commercials on the music stations is realyl nice and works well when you just want something on in the back ground at home.

As for antenna, I'm moving the one on my truck at the moment but plan on just getting a welded to the front of the rack and sticking it on there. I need to make sure there is enough cable but they do give you a lot to work with.

If you get the portable unit it comes with a magnetic antenna mount as compared to the standard antenna which is stick'em. You do need to find a place to mount the base unit with the portable unit as well, but on the passenger side of the transmission tunnel should work fine. For teh dash unit you need a place to mount the "receiver". Under the seat works fine but you will also need a tap for power. The portable unit can just use the cigar lighter or you can hardwire it in.

Karen did bring up the interesting point about which company will be around longer. It's kinda a pot-shot right now but I liked what I saw as far as Sirius model and current customers, plus growth trends. I realize though that, much like beta vs. VHS, I might have some equipment that might be useless in a few years. Altough if they did merge, I hope they'd work that out.

hope that helps.
