Running boards???
A-frame with lights, hold me back

If the A-frame is similar to the late model range rover brish bar, it is a POS. My SG bumper went through it, then through the lights that it was supposedly protecting.

oh, and the badging. We all know stickers add 15hp, and in this case a few more inches of articulation, maybe even better then a locker.
Unfortunatly i think this is a failed attempt by LR to steer some people away from the Ruicon, or H2. but the Rubi has actual lockers.

Seriously though - they aint saying what trail's rating it is for.. So :-) I mean hey - there is no doubt it can make through Animas Forks in Silverton :-) Or even (oh my) Long Canyon in Moab.

I guess this is actually answer to those Jeep "trail ready" stickers.

LOL...I like Trail edition IV with the

"Eye-catching stainless steel running boards"

Maybe they will distract the rocks from hitting the sides.

I am sure these vehicles can do well on the trail. That is if you don't mind losing important pieces of plastic and Eye-catching stainless steel :-)

Does anyone here besides me get the feeling that LR is having an identity crisis? Doesn't seem like they really know where they should fit themselves.

Surprised no one has asked if they can fit the rear tail lights of a 04 onto a D1 yet. :-) :-) Paul, what are your thoughts on this? LOL

Wow. I have not been to the rover web site in a long time. It sure has changed.

My favorite part:

"Benefits for Small Business Owners — Range Rover and Discovery both offer accelerated depreciation when purchased and used for business. Learn more about the details and deadlines now. "

Oh, I think they offer accelerated depreciation no matter who buys and uses them!

Alan,

No Comment on the 04 Trail Edition Eye Catching Kit being mounted to a 97 D1.

Paul :-)

Think about the Depreciation for a second (the main reason most people buy a Hummer). For a business owner or someone using the vehicle for business purposes. Any SUV (can't remember if this apply's to all vehicles) over 6000lbs gross vehicle weight when used for business purposes can be depreciated 60% the first year for tax purposes. (If bought used, you can write the whole cost off the first year).

Got to love the wording though.

I'd feel more comfortable if they rolled it a few times right before delivery. That way it would scrape off all of the stuff that isn't necessary!

Oh my gosh... I've got that card sitting on my desk! It is impressive and probably appealing to new buyers, I would have done it for sure!

I mean, I just think it is so cool how the card says "THE TRAIL MAP" on the front of the card with that spectacular picture.

The back of the card makes it look SO SIMPLE the way they have divided the card into quarters and boxed in the features of the TRAIL I through TRAIL IV packages.

However, I could not afford off roading/trail rides at those prices. YIKES!! I feel kind of bad for potential consumers. As I said, I would have defenitely purchased that! Only problem is once you get offroad, you find that's NOT the stuff you really need.

I gasped when I saw "running board sets" in the packages. Uh oh, those sure are gonna get ripped off quickly.

I confess, I did fall for the 1K (plus more with install in the price) wrap around brush bar. Gee whiz, did I think I was just cooking and ready for the offroad!! Thankfully, I can now laugh about the first time I got stuck deep and no one could get to me for a rear recovery. THAT was when I found out the wrap around brush bar covered the stock front recovery point. Those "recovery hooks" (NOT!) on the brush bar would have been great if they could be used without ripping the bar off.

I'll NEVER forget standing there looking at my stuck truck and questioning out loud - then why in the world did I buy this stupid thing?? EVERYONE laughed at me which only made me laugh like crazy because I realized what I had "fallen for" when I bought rover.

But, to be fair to Land Rover Sales Guides and myself, no one could have forseen that I would have caught ROVERITIS: becoming an off road addict which necessitates becoming a Dweb addict to learn about THE TRAIL and what does/does not work.

Cheers for Land Rover getting on the ball with off roading though! Might make things easier for those of us that don't live in trail country.

My biggest concern is who is going to teach all these enthusiastic buyers and potential off roaders about TREAD LIGHTLY and off roading in a manner that keeps trails open??? We're having a hard enough time as it is.

Just last week I received a beautiful mailing from a group that cares about keeping our country beautiful and accessable. I was horrified to see "off roaders" listed in the group of people that are destroying our country. I read it twice, then put it in the shredder to get it out of site.

Kind of hurt to see us listed. We are going to have to do an extra good job of cleaning up after ourselves and make an extra effort to clean up after our new "potential trail buddies". Makes me glad that I've had good teachers in that dept - I hope I will do a good job of kindly passing on what I have been taught.

Yes, I do believe LR is having "an identity crisis" - that sure was a good a good post Alan.

I fought LR to get my them to do my mods and was blessed that they agreed. What they would not do, I have just had to learn to do myself (with your help for sure!.) All agreed that dealerships just didn't want to touch anything until I proved myself to be responsible. Then, look at all the ADVERTISEMENTS out there bombarding everyone with the message that they need to escape, get out there, etc. I've been amused that all those beautiful ads have been pictured with vehicles that really CANNOT do what they are shown doing. Our rovers are the only land vehicles that can get to the places and traverse the terrain that they depict.

Well, just everyone is catching the fever. I think LR got caught "with their pants down" (as the saying goes) - they were kicking butt, way ahead of the game, and didn't even realize it. I think that they are now moving into "catch up" mode and they are doing it as fast as they can. Just getting stuff out there without a game plan solidly into place.

No worries on my part. It's just the modern version of the hare and the turtle race. No problem, let the others run themselves silly, you know that we're gonna win, don't you?

Hmmm... what's our creedo?

AS SLOW AS POSSIBLE, AS FAST AS NECESSARY

That's nothing new for us, is it???

Time to load up on some extra shackles and snatch straps, looks like we're gonna be recovering an awful lot of poser vehicles on our way to the finish line :-) :-) :-) When they see how graciously we assist them, we'll see them next when they bring their new rovers out to play :-) :-)

Jamie, I've been wheelin for over 20 years so I have a LOT of silly purchase stories. Some stuff is just so cool, way back when tubing was hot we all put on tube sidesteps and I bent mine up into the body in the first 100 yards of trail. Once I got the door open, I couldn't get it shut. Rest of the weekend it had to be strapped shut and I got to crawl in the pass. door. A bunch of money for repair that could of been used for real stuff....
