I know a lot's been said about this, but with my 3" lift in the front my '94 Disco has suddenly started wandering. Problem isn't the lift though. It was fine until I went from 245/70/16's to Cooper Discoverer 245/75/16 and fitted OME Steering Damper. Did the tire shop simply do bad wheel alignment, or could the OME damper contribute? Should I check sviwel pin preload? |

I just replaced all around BFG 245/70/16, and they've been great, but becuase of the flex in the new tread, it tends to wander just slightly. I'm quickly getting used to it. I dropped the tire pressure down into the low 40's from the 65lbs that the shop pumped them up to and that also seemed to help the wandering a lot as well. What's also intersting, was that I always thought I have an alighment problem, but after the installation of the new tires, the rig tracks straight now. And I know that they didn't adjust the alignment, I watched them install the tires. |

Thanks Porter, I'll experiment with tire pressures and post my findings. |

i will second porter...whenever i get a flat repaired, they go around and inflate all the tires to 60+ psi...i forget to tell them not to and as soon as i get in the truck it does it's best mario lemeaux impression until i get home and air down a bit. that would be my first fix attempt. mike |

60psi? I dont know where you getting your tires done, but you should either change place or tell them to stop smoke that stuff |

Sergei, its not that uncommon to run high pressure on load range E tires. Although 60 is a bit high I run 50-55 in my BFG ATs all the time. You can get around 55k miles out of them that way. Somewhat harsh ride though. I only do this with BFG load range E tires. |

wow, 60+ psi? I run 30f/40r on my BFG AT's and it seems to work fine for me. 60+ psi must feel like Model T wheels. |

I bought the tires from Tirerack.com and then had them drop shipped at a local tire and alignment place. They did a great job balancing the tires and install, but obviously tire pressure check was not in their list of things to do - I'm sure they just looked at the sidewall and said "65 lbs it is...". It maxed out my cheapo tire guage. I'll spend some this tomorrow to figure out a good pressure to go with. Thanks Alan, I'll use your tire pressure to go off of. |

Depends on what you are doing, how you drive and how long you want your tires to last. To get the spec'ed 55k out of the BFG, the only way you will do it is at high pressure, but I have never gone to 60. Max PSI on 245/75-16 BFG AT or MT is 80 PSI cold. I also carry about 300 lbs of gear in the back and just about every day go up to 500 lbs. Traction is still pretty remarkable really. Obviously I air down even for dirt. The only time I notice the stiffness of the tire is bumps and most of paved roads around here are pretty darned smooth. Speed bumps are humorous. Brian |

I conclude that my tires were too soft! I was running at around 33 PSI, which made handling very fuzzy and loose. This weekend I experimented with various pressures, and have found that the Cooper S/T's seem to love 40 PSI. |
