I just got my oil changed and after insisting that they change the oil filter AFTER they change the oil, and then pre-fill the oil filter... they changed the oil the coventional way and didn't prefill the filter. My question is, should I pull the filter now and prefill it or does it matter since they already started the truck???? Or has the damage already been done on the initial startup but now the truck has primed itself.... |

Your good to go. You should pre-fill the filter, but it's not always do-able. If the mechanic has to snake the filter up around obstructions and it would just spill out, he's not going to do it. Doesn't want oil running down his arm. Initial start ups are always hard on an engine, the oil drans back in the pan and there is just the small film on the contact parts. Kinda the nature of the beast. Don't worry about it and pat yourself on the back for getting the oil changed. Fresh oil is good!

If you're truly that concerned about an oil change, then just do it yourself! Don't sweat it - your oil pump never lost it's prime or any of those other Rover rumours you hear float around - it's just a small block V8 - nothing special..... Prefilling is an OK practice to get into, but pulling the filter after changing the oil is just long standing internet BS. Bill |

Hmmm. Leave the drain plug out overnight and than finish the oil change. I suspect that may cause some noises on start-up! 5or 6mins at an oil change place on a hot engine isn't going to cause any issues- the oil cooler never gets drained fully anyway, so there is a slug of oil inside the ehgine at start-up anyway. |
