Lifted my 97 Disco 1 w/ OME goods, running sliders, loaded roof rack, gear, etc. and soon a winch. With the addition of the bigger tires, I gained the clearances I wanted, but Holy Sh*t is it slow. The smallest hill slows it to a crawl on the highway, and accelerating on an onramp onto the highway is at times scary! Obviously, making the lame 4.0 more powerful is a pipedream, so how about gearing or other options. Any experiences or answers is appreciated..this must be a common prob w/ this setup..
Thanks, Jon

There's been a bunch of posts, lately, on related topics. I think there are 2 options: Change your gearing or go back to smaller tires.

I've assumed you've gone to a tire that's 32" or greater.. root cause.

4.11 gears will get you back to where you were with stock size tires. If you are planning to add lockers, you can regear at the same time. You will obviously have to regear both front and rear at the sime time, which I am sure you know already.

I am running 265/75-16 dueler MTs on my 95 and though I do notice a slight change in shifting the power loss is minimal. I think it is because I had a larger exhaust installed, less back pressure. If not that maybe it is because I took the rear mud flaps off? who knows, good luck though.

Gearing is the #1 solution
Roof Rack hurts you badly as well. If you really don't need it on every day, take it off

Gearing is the only solution if you are keeping the tires. However, I happen to like the zen style driving of the right lane out here in CO. Makes me remember the days of that VW Westy.

A number of people told told me " when you get 4.11's you wont be able to stop smiling" and they were totally right.

Do it all at once, save having to tear it down twice.
