When I try to put fuel in my Discovery Series I it will only take one or two gallons before the pump cuts out. The fuel breather seems not to be blocked and the vehicle runs normally. It is an American specification 4.0l V-8. Do you have any ideas that could help solve the problem?

I had this same issue on my Series II. Every time I filled up the pump would cut out. I found that after inserting the nozzle tilt it back until it contacts the side of the filler neck. Then slowly pull it back until it reaches the notch and start the pump. You do have to be careful not to pull it out too far, if you do the possibility exists the nozzle may fall out. I have had no further issues with the pump shutting off since. Also realize that the pressure at which the fuel flows is different from station to station, so if you always get gas at the same place that has a high flow rate it could be the fuel not making it to the tank fast enough and it shuts off the pump. Similar to the way your kitchen sink doesn't quite drain fast enough when the faucet is on full blast.

I have that problem too. I'm guessing that the detergent thats added to the fuel to clean the injectors (or what ever they're claiming to clean) causes foaming. When I get a can (plastic) of gas for the mower you can see it foam up pretty good. For my Disco, I just end up putting it on the second notch and clean the windows while I wait.

Its not a disco problem, I have a Honda Passport that does the same thing. Both vehicles have issues with certain types of pump handles/nozzles. After inserting the nozzle all the way pull it back a bit and it should work.
