I was told to use the A pillar but i will use the original factory roof rack hole ( had the remove it since i have a XD roof rack ). I am passing cable for a GPS antenna, CB antenna and rear work lamp. I am fitting these thru the rubber gromet that i am using to plug all four hole. Then the cable are inside the roof liner and will bring them all the way down to the firewall thru existing hole. I am installing some sound insulation padding in between the roof liner and the roof ( for outside noise damping ). I am using quick disconnect connector outside so that i can remove the rack when i want. Hope this help. PS not done yet but in the process. |

Love to hear more specs and see some pics as you move along Pascal. Also interested in what type of quick disconnect you use. |

Jason - What type of Disco? Here are some good examples of some kick-ass Disco2 wiring jobs. http://www.expeditionexchange.com/alcruz/DSC01808.jpg http://www.expeditionexchange.com/pismo2003/pismo0057.jpg http://koby.sigmadata.net/disco/102503_truckhaven/PA250022.JPG Here's a good Disco1 wiring job: http://koby.sigmadata.net/disco/102503_truckhaven/PA260086.JPG

I have a D1. I can't see where the wires are on the D1 in the picture? I have considered going through the holes for the factory rack. I do not want problems with it leaking though? If I install the plugs are ther any problems with it leaking? |

I ran mine through the pillar. Run a stiff snake down it, and pull the wires up. There is enough space in there, just make sure you use some silicone so there's no leaks afterwards. |

Please explain how you went down the pillar? Inside or outside? |

Run them outside up the windscreen. I put down 3m heavy duty all weather double-sided foam tape. I neatly ran the wires down the windscreen on the tape. I went to Home Depot and found this weather stripping that is about 2.5 inches wide. It is black and has the side profile of a lightening bolt. The thin edge slid under the "lip" on the existing windscreen molding thus covering the wiring while the other edge is fixed to the windscreen via more double sided tape. My digital camera is fubar'd so I can't take pics. It looks natural. In fact, most people think that it's a factory LR job. I think I have a power-point file on this. |

Jason, There is a square flap looking thing at the top of the rubber moulding. I lifted this up just a little, and ran a stiff sink snake down it. The snake was at the most 1/4" wide at the end. Pull the wires up the shaft, I'm guessing it's a space next to the glass. My wires come out right where the gutter ends. Afterwards, take some good silicone and make sure you have no gaps around your wires so water can get in. Mine came out really nice, and you can't see any silicone unless you look from above where the wires come out. Hope this helps, Matt |

I borrowed the company camera and took three pics of the weather stripping. I can't get the images to shrink. I can email if interested. Most that have seen it liked it. |

Thanks Mike! I love this BB. It's a pretty cool idea on grounding the rack. |

Funny how relevant things just pop up on this BB. I am in the process of wiring my aux lights (some "hand me down" Hella Black Magics). I have them mounted to the rack-I've just been kicking around ideas on how I'm gonna wire them. I am gonna tackle the job tomorrow- I'll try and take pics of the whole process. |

I have a set of black magics, and I routed them right through the pillar. The only spot where the wire shows is about 3-4" from pillar to rack.

1. Slide the wires up behind the windscreen side seal and glass. Use soapy water and it will slip in like a dream. 2. For smaller wattages only, just run positives to the rack. Ground the rack to the frame with a copper strap. dean |

On my D2, I used a 12/4 rubber cased wire that you can get at home depot for $1.70/ft. It has extreme weather ratings and is UV protected. It was recommended by an electrician friend. It's very pliable and easy to work with. I overwired my lights (Hella 4000s) for maximum power. So I ran pos & neg wires to each light. There is a 12/4 wire running up each side of my windshield next to the A pillar cover. I used two-sided tape to hold them down. They fit under the trailing edge of the hood and I bent the corner down of the metal flange with the rubber seal and laid the wire right over it. The wires run to little panel I built with a relay holder, a fuse box, a positive distribution bar and a negative distribution bar. The bars have a cable to my dual battery terminals. I can detach the pos and negative from the battery, unplug the disconnects to the switches in the dash and remove the whole thing along with the roof rack in minutes. I'll get some photos and diagrams after SAE and send them to Ho for the tech section. |

I ran all the wires for my rack through heat shrink and ran it down the outside of the A pillar and down the top of the fender then turned the corner and when into the second battery well. It took two 3' long pieces of heat shrink with a little overlap at the junction. I put the relays and the battery isolator there on top of the battery. I ran the control wires through an existing plug in the firewall just behind the brake booster. This is a no drill install. -jeff '97 Discovery SE7 |

I am in the process of doing the same. The A pillar still throws me for a loop. Just to make sure I am getting this. All you have to do is pull back the top and bottom corner pieces of the windshield molding? The wiring will feed through the rest of the pillar? |

if you choose the right wire you can just jam it in that channel that is there, on the outside of the molding. or buy a snorcle and route it up that rob |
