Crawled under my '96 D1 , you know- just to check the leaks and such - and just an inch or two ahead of the starter and apparently branching out of the hot (+) wire harness from the batteryto the starter is a two wire connector attached to a blue plastic "cup- like" cap with two copper posts inside of it. It was just hanging there in front of the starter, not connected to anything. Didn't see any obvious unmated receivers for this connection. Not being one to believe there are many uneeded "extras" just hanging down under the chasis, can anyone help me identify this thing, and to where it might connect? |

Actually that blue piece is broken, it is part of the knock sensor. The remainder is still in the block behind the exhaust manifold. If you look more closely you will see the the blue cap will unplug by removal of the metal clip from the black plug. Replacement cost is around $100 give or take depending on where you source it but should be replaced. Your computer system uses the signal from this as well as the one on the other side of the block to control timing ie distributorless ignition. If your not already getting the CEL you will. Ask me how I know. |
