Every time i open up internet explorer there is this blue search bar: http://hummer.usc.edu/hummer/disco.jpg. Well it was fine in the begining, but now it is annoying. It is slowing down my computer since every time i change a website it changes the other links. So my question is does anyone know how i might get rid of this. I tried to uninstall it with the control panel, but it isn't listed. So anyone have an idea?

Thanks
Chris

Go through your IE options -- there's got to be a switch to flip or box to uncheck to turn it off.

Two items:
Under Tools/Internet Options - change your home page to whatever you want

Adware/Spyware - you may have Adware/Spyware that is changing things for you. Go to http://www.cexx.org/adware.htm

On the right side of this page is a link to Adware Uninstallers. Lavasoft makes a good one called AD-aware.

Andrew: I went through and can not find it.

Mark: My homepage is what i want it to be, and I have Ad-aware and have run it, yet it does not pick it up.

Mozilla Firebird is a great browser -- I usually use it at home, with no problems! No pop-ups, no pop-unders, no kidding!

Try Opera @ http://www.opera.com

IE is soooo old. I like Opera's ability to have multiple open sessions (web sites) within one Opera launch.

I use Mozilla on Windows 2K, Linux and Solaris.

Opera is good too. Both Mozilla and Opera support tabbed browsing (multiple sessions in one window). Mozilla has execellent popup control. I don't remember the last time I saw a popup or popunder ad.
My favorite opera feature is the ability to easily change the id string. You can make the browser identify as IE for those sites that are "IE only".

Sure sounds like your systems have been hijacked by a spyware/adware trojans. Take a look at this site: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html

Page down and try running the CWShredder.

Another site to investigate is http://www.cexx.org
Under Ad Nauseam click on Adware/Spyware. Scroll down about 1/2 way and there is a section on Homepage Hijackers.

Good luck.

I had my wifes PC screwed by visiting mp3.com. It truly was a nightamre to get everything off. Thier site did everything from installing 37 apps to changing registry values. I have been an IT consultant since I was very young and it took three hours of work to get her system back to normal.

If and when you get this resolved pay close attention to what you do with pop-ups. Some of them are savy enough to install the app or system change as an option when you close them out. They succeed in this by delivering so many pop-ups that you do not take the time to read how the service is delivered.

Take a look at what you can remove through Strat/Control Panel/Add-Remove programs as a beginnnig. This may not solve the problem, but it will get you on the way. The other solutions remain in the "regedit" and "sysedit" commands, but I am not going to go itno this as dangers that are worse may happen unless you know your stuff.

'REGEDIT', don't go there Brisket Boy. Download an evaluation of Adaware and/or Pest Control. You'll be surprised what is living in your PC :-)

I would suggest using spybot myself, it can also lock down all changes to the options page of you IE as well as lock down your registry if I recall correctly. Sypbot is free, they just ask for a donation. (If it works, give them a couple $ for the headache that it saved you)

No I am not in any way affiliated with them. Just like the product.
