Can anyone in Australia suggest a good place to obtain a CODE reader. I live in Melb, Vic and don't want to pay through the nose. I have my Haynes manual and want to diagnose my misfiring 94 2 door Disco I.

It has been missing and feels like missing on one maybe two cyl's..and I'm getting extra smoke from the exhaust. The problem decided to disappear when I took it to the repairer..he said the vehicle ran beautifully, but alas, after leaving the vehicle un-used for three days, the problem returned. If anyone can help a poor Aussie who loves this vehicle, thoughts would be appreciated.

Further to my last, my speedo needle flutters and I am down on power by about 50%...could it be the VSS? Have had the plugs, wires and distrib/cap checked and all are in good nick..

No dean I don't reckon. On an Oz car the VSS is mostly only used to invoke the idle speed control. More likly a crook pump or Airflow meter. Is it fuely of lean do you reckon.

US 94-95 have a read out under our passenger front seat which of course is your drivers seat....whether they swapped that over to your passenger side or not is something you'll tell us.
Looking forward to the Lions Wallabies Final!

Oz cars don't have a read out fitted. I went to the England v Wales game last week at Lang park, good game but the place was full of mad English and Welchmen.

Howzit Shaun,
You said that after 3 days of not driving the rover the symptums appeared again......I had a dear vehicle a few years ago that had the same indications ....It was worn valve guides that allowed oil to trickle into forbidden places.
When next I started the vechile...voila! smoke and oil smell. I hate it.
Aloha, Louis

Well Shaun,
you were right. As of about 30 mins ago, my local dealer/repairer said my Airflow meter is shot...he said it is fouling my plugs and sending my fuel consumption through the roof. He has to send it off to electronics contractor who can supply reco for roughly $700...new one I'm told around $1300. Wish it was a smaller cheaper sensor, but I guess these things happen. By the way, looks like the Wallabies will wallop the Lions...go Aussies.

Dean
$700 seems steep ring Petroject and ask what they sell reco ones for. I've got one spare but I use it for fault finding so you can't have it.

Shaun,

Pretty sure my dealer got one through Petroject..$660 to be exact. Replaced the Air mass meter, plugs, air filter, and basic tune.. i reckon i'm getting 10%-15% better fuel economy and 20-30% more power. No more black smoke and idles without any of the stalling (like it use to). Thanks for the help.

Don't worry..any future maintenance done by me with the assistance of the service manual..don't care how long it takes. And my dealer reckons he was looking after me...bull
