96 Disco. When lights are turned on, head lights work fine. The tail lights and the dashboard light DON'T. I checked the fuses and are fine. What can the problem be?

Bad connection in tail lights?

Bad switch in turn signal stalk?

You have a bad switch, replace it and problem will go away. www.motorcarsltd.com has them new for $100.00 bucks.

Thank you Andrew and Tony. Tony, when you say bad switch, you mean the entire turn signal & head light switch as Andrew suggested?

Jose,

I think you should re-check your fuses. I occasionally have the same problem and it's ALWAY a 10 amp fuse. I can't remember exactly which one at present, but if your looking at the fuse box under wheel, it's on the right hand side, about halfway up. I remember that the fuse description for the one that blows DOES NOT seem very obvious. I keep a few 10 amp fuses handy. If the dash lights go out I know the passenger side tail light is out as well.

Best Regards

You may also want to check the ground wire that is under the steering wheel. Mine had a loose ground and that took care of it!

Good luck!

I have the same problem and it is always a fuse blown( can't remember which number but about half way down the panel ) on the fuse panel under the steering wheel. Haven't worked out what is causing it yet but i suspect it is something to do with the trailer plug wiring. ( only started afer I had this wired up )

97 Disco same problem.
Whent through about a 12 fuses before locating the culprit. The light in the glove box is on the same circuit. The lens with the light bulb & contacts drops down and shorts out to the metal frame blowing fuse. Wraped the contacts with tape and the metal frame, all is well over 1 year ago.

Also supporting the fuse theory.

FYI - your dashlights are intentionally on the same circuit as your tailights, to serve as the indicator to you that they are not functioning.

hope it's the fuses, I had to replace the turn stalk - $$ The detent for the headlights wore out - caused all kinds of problems with the lights. But as long as I could keep the headlights on I had all of my lights...
