On the way home, never happend before, within a 15 minute period the truck suddenly slows, RPM's DROP to about 1200, it acts as if I shifted it into N while driving steady at 50 mph. Happens 3 times, so I pull off the road, shift into 3rd to make my way to Ship's Mechanical (which is on the way home for me) and it happens 2 more times in that mile. Of course when Doug drives it, the thing does not reoccur. Sounds like the VSS problems that several on this site have had - please respond with specifics about symptoms. Doug said it could also be the throttle, or tach reostat going out because I always drive it right at about 2000 RPM, so it is just wearing down at that spot. Again, it feels like I suddenly shift into N while driving, but the RPMs lower to 1200, they do not rev like you might expect if it came out of gear while having my foot on the pedal - it's a 1994 auto with 116k miles on it. Could be a clogged fuel filter, bad VSS, or sticking valves. I had the same problem. I changed the fuel filter and the VSS and the problem went away. Thanks, Mike B. |

New fuel filter about 4k ago. I guess that doesn't mean it couldn't be clogged, what with the type of gas they have out there these days. I filled up the SIIa on Shell and it barely ran for two days, as soon as I put a new tank of Chevron in it went back to it's normal 35 year old puuuurrr... |
