The fuel door on my 97 4.0 will not open. It opened by itself while driving, so I shut it and now the interior button will not open it. When I push the button nothing happens, no sound from the rear? I did check the fuse, it is fine. Please help any suggestions would be great. Thanks Jason |

Jason, It is probably your fuel door solenoid. You can pull the back panel apart and manually open the fuel door until you can get it fixed. I experienced the same problem while driving, the fuel door opened by itself and once closed, did not open again via the button. |

I pulled the solenoid and it is stuck in the closed position? I also tested the plug and found out that it has constante power? So I then checked the switch, I unpluged the switch and tested the solenoid plug again and it still has power. I do not know what to do? Why would the plug still have power with the switch unpluged? Thanks again for your help in advance |

Unfortunately I do not have an answer to that. Isnt the solenoid being stuck in the closed position the problem? |

Closed as in plunger out, door locked. I know that the solenoid is fried, it sat all night with the power going to it. It also smelled fried and the plug got a little melted, not bad though. I can bypass the computer and rewire the new solenoid, I think. I would rather fix the problem though? |

On the P38A the petrol flap release is controlled via the BeCM. You have two choices. One is (as suggested) to bypass the BeCM to activate the locking solenoid directly. The other is to repair/replace the BeCM. http://www.cunningham.me.uk/rangie/becm-repair.php gives the information you need if you're really brave! |
