I will need to replace brake rotors on my D1 fairly soon. I had been planning to go to one of the vented/drilled options out there and am interested in peoples experience? One concern is longevity in normal city driving. I have seen threads on the Land Cruiser list (tlca.org) about cracks caused by rapid heating and cooling. Comments??? What about pad life in dirty/muddy/sandy conditions? |

Mark, I recently put high performance drilled and slotted rotors with ceramic pads on the front of my 99 Disco 1 and it works extremely well. "Put your face into the windshield" - 1000 times better than stock. I have about 10k on these rotors so far so good. I will definitely put them on the back when the time comes. Street Performance: if you drive aggressively then this is a must. I have lots of experience. Off Road: only one trip so far but "when they grab they grab" they wont creep/slip like the stock pads. As far as rapid heating and cooling - I don't drive for the Ferrari F1 team so I wouldn't know. |

Good on the street, a bit noisy, but no big deal. IMO I think they're better with standard organic pads and not kevlar, ceramic, or metallic - much better when wet and off road this way. Off road the slots and vents plug with mud and pad life is short - but to me that's OK since they're easy to change. Bill |

Do some research before you pay anything for OEM pads. Tirerack.com and Atlantic British have a variety aftermarket pads. http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brakes.jsp?autoMake=Land+Rover&autoModel=Discover y+SD&autoYear=1998&autoModClar=&make=EBC&model=6000+Series+Truck%2FSUV+Pads http://www.atlanticbritish.com/
