I know this has been addressed in the past but I can not find the post. I am about to change the swivel ball grease in a 1996 D1. Does anyone have any good suggestions to get the old stuff out? I have heard to put some 90W in there an drive around for a couple days? Any help would be great. |

Matt, Is your grease contamniated? or do you just want to change it. I didnt think the models with grease had any sort of a drain off and it took a full tear down to clean them out. anyone? -leo

96 D1 may have drains. If so drain what you can, then add 90W to loosen old grease, drain until clean and add the one shot grease. That is what I did and the LR tech I talked seemed to think it was an OK way. He recommended the one shot grease although others here just run 90W. If there is grease in it rather than 90W oil there could be a sticker inside the engine compartment. |

The one shot grease will ooze out if you do it when its warm. At least 2/3rds of it will. Then fill with 90W and drain again in a week or two and refill. I'm now using Lucus Oil stabilizer 100% in the Right side one, and it hardly drips at all now. My other swivel is straight 90W and doesn't weep a drop. Really easy to do on the 96's.
