I need some direction here, I have a 96 D1 (93K miles) with the usual slow leaks (valve cover gasket, rear main seal, steering box). Two days ago I started noticing a burning fluid smell. It's somewhat similar to burning oil (like it was spilled on the block). It also has a hint of exhaust smell. Interestingly enough, I smell it inside the car with slight heat on. When I stick my head under the hood I can't smell anything, nor when I crawl underneath. I can sometimes detect the smell on the drivers side of the vehicle towards the rear tire. At first I thought I was burning oil, or somehow fluid was penetrating where the heating air intake is (if there is such a place). Anyway, I have no ideas what could cause this and I'm interested in your ideas/suggestions. Thanks in advance, Chris

Have you installed a new brake switch? Check the wires under the drivers kick panel. |

Charles, no brake switch or anything. The most recent thing I have done is changed the oil 500 miles ago, but any spilled on the engine would be gone now. Besides this just started. Joey, it smell like a light burning oil smell. I really smell it when I have the air vents open and the temp setting between the heat and cold air. Thanks |
