Hey Guys...new to the site and love it. I'm trying to figure out what steps to take in order to increase horsepower and gas mileage. I have found 2 options...the Airforce 1 air intake modification, and/or the Tornado air modification. Any suggestions?

Both of those have been proven to be ineffective. The Tornado it just bunk, and the Airforce 1 either is ineffective, or designed badly, depending on who you ask.

The best way to get more power/MPG is to decrease weight and drag. Steel bumpers, roof-racks, etc. all reduce mileage drastically.
There are tons of engine mods out there to increase power, cam upgrades, manifolds, etc. RPI is a good place to check. However, these are going to be expensive.

Remember, you bought a 5000 pound rolling brick.

I believe the best not way to increase power and fuel economy on any Disco or Range Rover is to trade it in on a Honda or a New Mazda RX8....

Nothing will increase the power and economy too the point that it will outway the cost of getting you there.

Considering what the Disco or RR are capable of they both get good fuel economy and power.

Plan A: Get to Tahoe
Bet a pile on a football parlay Friday nite
Collect your winnings Sunday
Put in a 4.6 V-8(Maybe the newer 4.4?)

Plan B: Repeat Plan A until you have enough for the engine swap.

add a snorkel kit. this acts as a cold air intake. power and gas millage in a rover? good luck. bigger free flow exhaust will help. 3 inch duals? powder? humm, yummy i like the sound of that!

There are lots of engine mods for HP and TQ. None are cheap but you get what you pay for. Lots of power.
If you are looking for an inexpensive solution
the best mod for more power and better fuel mileage is a chip. Contact Rovers North.
The tornado is a joke.

Rob,
I too have a '96 D1. I did a lot of research trying to find the best way to get more power- but the sad fact seems to be that you're probably getting all you're gonna get. I have found that a bottle of injector cleaner every month helps the mpg's- (I get 18hwy) but the D1's engine design is pretty outmoded, and a 4.0 is pretty small for the "5000 pound rolling brick", to quote Erik. My solution is that I'm going to buy a 2000 4.6 HSE Range Rover next year...
Cheers,
Paul.

The easiest way would be to let the engine breathe easier.
Fit a snorkel with something like a K+N filter, then a freeflow exhaust and manifold. Thats about it really, except be gentle with your right foot :-)
