Okay, hopefully this is my last post on tires.
I was hoping you all could tell me the differences between these two tires as far as handling goes. What are the pros and cons of these tires in relation to each other? Which turns better? I'm buying tires this week and could use some good advice before I make the plunge. Tires will be BFG MT's.

-99 series 1 w/ ome hd springs.

Also is there a difference in gas mileage between the two?

they're both the same hight, ones about an inch wider. I'll bet you couldn't tell them apart while driving.
Here's the sizes in inches
265/75 ~ 31.6 X 10.4
235/85 ~ 31.7 X 9.3

all depends

most 238/85/16's are E's...the ride very firm and give great stability

most 265/75/16's are c's they ride softer but ad some body sway in corners due to the softer sidewall

I run 235/85/16...i run them at 60psi on the street all the time ,with a lift and rack and no rear sway bar the truck can still be driven hard and aggresive without any feeling of "driving on the edge"

I have a few friends with C 265's and they all ride mushy.

to each there own

D1s are narrower than D2s. D1s look good with skinny tires, D2s seem to look better with wider tires, imho. So go for the 85s.

From my experience 235/85's that are E load range destroy the ride of the truck IMHO. If you want something that handles better, put a set of OME HD's on it and leave it at that...remember, you are driving a truck. If you aren't happy with the OME HD's then you are in the wrong type of vehicle (read: you need a sports sedan or a cross-over car/SUV hybrid).

As far as the tires go, buy a decent set of 265/75's in a C load range and trim the fenders. The 265/75s will give you a MUCH better riding vehicle, 1" of additional track (width from tire edge to tire edge), 2" more tire on the ground (be it pavement, gravel, mud, etc.), and what I think looks better too as the tire fills the wheel wells.

I've had 235 and 265 and wouldn't trade the 265s for anything.

265/75 bfg mt's it is. Thanks for the info guys! 1 last question, will I need to get rid of the sway bar? I'm not even sure of what it is, does, or why I would need to get rid of it. Thanks for your help!

Leave the swaybar unless you are hitting the rubicon, and put on 235s. LR specs narrow - the wider ones go just on the US trucks cuz americans think bigger is better for dumb reasons.

Well, where I wheel, for example, bigger IS better (and I'm not even an American). So if that is dumb, Wicks' suggestion is even dumber. Put your 265s on a be happy.

Thanks Milan. The 265's are on their way. I like the wider look of these tires and also like that these will ride a bit softer. I'm really excited to see how they turn out. All I have to do now is get this fender trimming thing all figured out and I'll be squared away!

Thom,
As long as you have LT tires that have load rating high enough to carry your vehicle fully laden, those letters are only good for discussion or looks. Dont you think? Or do you think Discos really need E tires?
