Anyone know a good source for an inexpensive old WWII hand crank air raid siren. I have checked ebay but they are all close to $400.

I really want one for prank purposes!! I am sure my neighboring apartment dwellers will love it at 3:00 am!!!!

Or if you know of something equally menacing, I am up for suggestions.

bj

search for " federal q" or "federal signal siren"

ebay allways has them. They are teh loud crank sirens you hear from the old fire trucks. They are loud as a mother, and have a great sound. They sound very similar to the air raid sirens.

if you can picture the front bumper of a fire truck, they are about 8-9 inches round and have a big fan in them to drive the air and make the sound, and are ussually chrome

That would be great on my roof rack. Are they legal to have, or do you need a permit to mount on a vehicle?

Try giving Col. Bubbie's in Galveston a try. They have everything. And if he doesn't have it, he can tell you where to find it.

Rick yes you need to have a permit for any noise making device on a vehicle over certain point of decibles.

They dont just give them out to people who want thier truck to make a lot of noise and these big federal Q style sirens are really big and you can conceal them

BUT for 150 bucks you can get a speaker thats 100watts and it will wedge nicely behind your front grill off to the side. You can see it. Then maybe you could locate an old electronic siren or PA system. That would be loud as hell
