Hello All, I have a 1997 Discovery and I'm missing one of the nuts that holds my rear spare on. I went looking for a replacement and found that it's not a standard size, at least not in North America. Is it British Standard Thread, and if so, what size is it? If it is BST, my guess is that I can get it at a fastener specialty shop for about 5% of what LR wants for it. Thanks in advance for your response to my "boneheaded question". Best Regards |

Hi Philip, Yes, I'm refering to the nuts that screw down over the three lugs which hold the spare to the rear door. I tried a variety of standard/metric nut sizes with no luck. Unfortunately I have no immediate access to british standard thread nuts to check against the lugs. |

The threade is 16mm with a 1.5mm pitch. You might have to go to a fastener supply store, or your dealer. The best home store I have found to try is Lowes. I hope this helps.

Thank Michael, What the hell is that anyway, is it in fact British Standard Thread as I suspected, or is it even more obscure (in north America) than that? I'll pick one up at a fastener supply store. If I get a minute I'll call the local LR Dealer and price one. I'm sure the price difference will be "mildly amusing". Thanks for the help with the thread size. Best Regards

It's a metric extra fine thread. Not to standard here in the states. We use them at my business and they have to come from Italy. |
