Ok, I can't bitch too much. I bought a '87 Classic with ???miles for about $2000 and I have only two concerns. It appears to have a rear main seal leak and the steering is all over the place! Any tips on the steering?

Can you describe what is happening with the steering? Things to look at are the steering box and bushings.

Basically it feels really really loose, especially during lane changes and gusty wind. I know to expect looseness but this feels downright scary.

Oh, You've got the "Happy Wanderer" Syndrome. Rear trailing arm bushings. I had a poly blue set put in. Tie rod, front radius arms, rear trailing arms. Drives almost as good as new. Check all your rod ends, as they are probably all shot.

Should I ask how much it costs? I am afraid to ask.

150 from AB

http://www.atlanticbritish.com/ProductList.asp?vehicle=RC&category=ALL&Search=bu shing+kit&PartNumber=&x=0&y=0

dap in has for $100 with slightly less parts.

plus installation of usually ~300

or if you have spare parts you can get the bushings pushed into the spares for ~$100 (thats what i did)

or you can try to do it yourself using a vice or arbor press.
