I am looking to purchase a 1995 or older Range Rover and was wondering how reliable they are? I would be using it off road and as a daily commuter.

Thank You,
Daniel

I love mine. I have an 89 with all stock components (engine, suspension, drivetrain, interior, everything is original). It has well over 250k miles and it still runs strong. The engine is a little tired but nothing horrible. Just this summer I pulled a 73 Airstream trailer from Spokane, Washington to Las Vegas, and despite the 5000+ lbs. and the horrible gas mileage it pulled awesome. I have numerous things that need to be sorted out and fixed but overall I would strongly encourage it. They are wonderful.

there are good ones and not so good ones depending how well the p.o. performed the necessary maintenance.

you might want to perform some searches as there have been discussions on what to look for on buying a Classic RR.

I just bought a '87 RR. I had it checked out and it seems pretty good. I did notice today that it has the standard oil hemoraging from various areas. I have no idea the mileage but the engine is still pretty strong.

The mechanical bits are pretty reliable .. the newere RRC (especially the 95) are very nice, but have a lot of electronics. I'm not really that bothered though if the heated seats fail on my car as I bought it for a totally different reason.
Just make sure it had its regular maintenance which is very important. Also read up on some stuff on www.rangerovers.net

Thanks for all your help guys. I do like some of the electronic features of the "newer" ones, e.g. heated seats, heated windshield, heated mirrors, etc.

Thank You,
Daniel
