I know I've read a few times that there are supposed to be threaded plugs under the carpet of the D1's, or am I wrong. I need to get some tie downs back there but would rather not have to drill.

Am I correct, and if so, how many are there?

Thanks

Zak

There are 4. Pull up the carpet and pad, and you'll see the plastic plugs -- they are roughly in the "corners" of the cargo area, and have what look like flathead screwdriver slots in the center. Pop 'em off, and the holes are threaded and everything!

THanks a lot Andy. You wouldn't happen to know what size the threaded opening is?

zak, you should be able to locate them by looking at the padding too. the padding has precut holes in it that you can pop out with your finger. the plugs should be right below.

like andrew said, they are in the corners.

cool, I've been meaning to do this for...uhhhh...over 5 years now.

I'm slapping a piece of wood back there, cut to fit the cargo area & anchored to those 4 holes. Then I'll put anchors all over the wood itself.

This should be a 6-beer project, minimum.....

LOL, Blue, just make sure when you're done, you have 4 holes, not 7... :-)

Do you need special anchors or it is a common thread size? If they are special, where can you get them?

LR sells a kit for this purpose. STC 5873 is the part number. no doubt they inflate the price. i could not find it at AB or roversnorth. i looked in the manual and the only 2 dimensions given are 23.5mm and 26.5mm, which i think is the bolt length. likely metric threads, too. i've recently pulled up my mats to replace the fuel pump. if i find the thread size i'll post...
cheers,
carl

Thanks for the info guys.

Carl, I'll see what my local wants for the kit. If it's not to much i'll go for it.

Thanks again,

Zak

i was able to thread fine thread 7/16 bolts into the holes, but have been informed that the proper thread is a metric size.

7/16=11.1mm
that .1 makes me suspect that the reason its tough to get 7/16s in there

Holy S%$T batman, LR Willow Grove wants $137 for the kit. Ouch. I'll make my own thanks. Hmm, approx. 11mm bolts. I'm sure I can find one to fit. There is a local hardware store that sells just about every possible nut and bolt ever made.

Thanks for hte info guys.

LOFL...what's in the "kit"? Does it include a safari shirt and safari hat?

You guys should all know the folks at the local hardware store by now. I'm always walking out into the parking lot with their blessing and a handfull of their nuts & bolts to see if they fit that there Toyota Land Rover I have.

Ummm... there are some parts I sell and some parts I tell people to go to Walmart or Pepboys for. That kit is one of the things I refuse to sell genuine. The other is the trailer accessory kit.

Alyssa, It funny you say that. I was at the local D ealer while getting some work done, and I knew I needed a spare h4 headlight bulb. The parts guy refused to sell me one at 31 dollars each, he sent me down the block to autozone.

I was just curious if the price was reasonable. Some parts are decent prices at the d ealers, but not this one.

Blue, too funny as I get that all the time. The local Costco was putting tires on for me and every time I go in there they think it is a different vehicle. To get my MTR's mounted i told them it was a Jeep Rubicon and hte idiot believed me, so they did not give me a hard time about mounting the tires.

thats awesome!

i know, i'd tell them anything to stop whining about this tire won't work for this...

tire force out of ATL hasn't given me any trouble...
but both Sears and NTB were telling me that my 245/70 BFG AT had softer side walls and wasn't rated right... thing is the are a load rating heigher, hold about 400-500lbs more per tire... i didn't understand but... whatever

Another dealer rip-off story:

The Bosch coil I just bought for $45 new online is *identical* to the last one the dealer replaced for me as a genuine LR coil, at I think $140...

Does anybody else go through coils or just me?

I'm having a hard time as well finding 11mm bolts as well. Maybe that is why the dealer wants so much for htem. Still looking though.

just a guess, maybe try a bike shop for the 11mm. They're all metric now and the shop might have some. Should be cheap, too.

Its the thread size that counts.
Either 6mm or 8mm.

i've looked pretty hard for 11mm bolts with no luck. it seems they come in 2mm increments from 8 upwards. i used SS 3/8 with a SS nylock on the underside, and metolius bolt hangers (made for sport climbing) as anchor points. turned out pretty clean.
cheers,
carl
