I just took my 97 Disco in to have 2 exhaust gaskets replaced. The mechanic said that both my transmission hoses are leaking badly and need to be replaced. $615 for the replacement was what I was quoted. He said it would take him close to 6 hours to complete the job. Does this sound right? It seemed like a HIGH price to pay for 2 hoses. I am not sure of exactly how difficult they are to replace.. Any ideas? |

I don't about that Ken. I just bought the transmission oil cooler lines from AB. Actually I bought the kit and it cost me just over $200. The kit has 3 hoses. I will be replacing them on Saturday and can tell you how long it takes. If we are talking about the same thing, I can't possibly imagine it taking that long. Do a search and you will find a good bit on this topic. Several people here have done this and I imagine they'll chime in soon. Ken |

Ok, it took 3 hours. I had never done it before and there were some very tight places. Not a hard job though. I think 6 hours is crazy. I disconnected the exhaust manifold at the flange, which made it easier and took off the front grill too. The hard part is figuring out how to get the lines back in. If you do any work on your truck I'd say go for it. Good luck, Ken |

I did the transmission lines on my D1 last year, and had one fitting at the front oil cooler that required significant effort ( and heat) to remove. Fortunately, able to save the cooler. I usually charge 4.25 hours for the three hoses, but I also replace the trans filter and pan gasket. |

Yeah Trevor, that front fitting was a little tough. I took that slow and was able to get it off without any damage. Ken |
