So i finally did put truck back all together,
took it on stands to test how it behaves, and there is funky noise from rear shaft (new woods shaft). I took it off and there is weird wiggling in rear flange. Its replacement 4-holes flange, that i got from autopartsgo.com (good place with great selection btw).

Is it sppse to wiggle a bit side to side or not? Wiggling seems to come from rear differential part that flange is getting screwed on. I dont really want to take diff apart, but if its sign of some stuff that go dead in there - please tell me :-)

in a word - heeeeeelp..

If the pinion stem is wiggling, your pinion bearing(s) is/are going bad. There should be almost imperceptible endfloat - I don't know what the exact # is for the Rover diff - but if you can move it around, you have a bearing problem IMHO.

Maybe not pinion bearings.....

did you install the pinion bearing spacer collar when you converted to the new new u-joint flange??

If not and you've driven it more than 50 miles, there is a strong chance you've fucked the ring & pinion.

Well new flange came as kit with new nut, bolt (beats me what that one was for, but..), flange seal and funky collar. So yep - pressed collar on there.. Thing is - collar wont really prevent any excessive movement, at least i fail to see how..

You need the spacer.

This is what you get for buying crap from people who do not know what they are doing.

The spacer slides down the splined pinion stem. Then you put the new 4-bolt flange on, put the washer back on, snug down the new nylock to recommended torque (100 ft lbs I recall). The flange should not move in or out, since it will be pressed against the spacer which butts up to the machined surface on the pinion stem.

The bolt isn't needed if you have the 24mm/15/16" nylock. Rover has another design where the bolt is used.

Lateral movement would be very bad (bearings is my guess). But if that flange is moving in and out, Bill's and Ron's advice is important.

AB, $10.fitty.

Although, if you've driven and haven't used one, Bill's suggestion rings true - you could have damaged something.

I know it is not crap, the people who sold it to you are crap. It is not the exact part number. It is just one of the parts you need. This is about the Nth time I have seen this. Vendors who just don't know jack about rovers, especially when they are dealing with anything out of the ordinary. I am sorry I was rude but I suggest you call them and tell them you just wrecked a differntial because they did not know what they were selling and that you expect them to pay for it and see how they respond, then determine who was rude.
