OK, its late November and the 04's are all over the place. How much do you think I can get the dealer down to on a zero mile (not a loaner) 03 SE Disco II w/ Cold Climate package? I've got a Freelander in the drive way and there is a spot waiting right next to it for a big brother...

Every dealer is going to vary in what they'll do, and it depends on the day, person, attitude etc. We've had a couple of 03's, SE7's, with about 10k miles and sold them for around $32k.

here is the breakdown
38995 for the truck
500 for the cold climate

4500 off of sticker, land rover rebate
2000 off for owner loyalty

32995 would be the price

also on the 04 discoverys there is a 1500 discount on them and another 2000 for owner loyalty.

I just bought a new 2003 SE with the cold climate package for $34,000 out the door with new plates ($200). Back out the taxes and such and I paid about $32,000.

What's this "owner loyalty" and rebate thing?? Is this only in the US? I haven't heard anything like this in Canada.

Owner loyalty doesn't apply to 2004 models.

Not sure if it's only a US thing, but if you are a previous owner of a Rover, they will give you an additional rebate of $2000.

Owner loyalty:
If you own a Discovery, Freelander, or Range Rover, and purchase a BRAND NEW (warranty not started) 2003 Discovery, you receive $2000 off the purchase.
I would assume it is valid in Canada, as most programs cover all of NA, but I could be wrong.

Yes, Owner loyalty is for the purchase of a 2003 Disco if you already have any Land Rover, weather you trade it or not.

Have they done this at the end of every model year? I am hoping to go visit Alyssa around this time next year or later for a 2004 leftover....I am hoping that with the 2005 soccermobiles coming out that there will be lot's of 2004 leftovers, and my D2 will be 5 years old then....and I can get CDL and play nice with the 2004 until it is out of warranty, which will be in 2008 or so and then I'll turn it into my trail rig as the '99 should be close to shot by then. Are you ready Alyssa?

Mr. Rogers,

Go buy your Disco in the latter half of the day on the last business day of the month with cash in hand. Friday is best. Maybe Friday, Nov 28th will work, depending on T-day holiday closure issues. Find the young-stud, early-30's salesman that looks like he has a hot date starting 30 minutes after the end of his shift. Say "Um...I just don't know...." a lot. Of course, drive your Freelander there and park it front & center. Block a driveway while you're at it. Let us know how it turns out.

Garrett, only proof they ask for is a copy of your registation for the Rover. Must be registered in your name.

In addition to Blues suggestion, tell them that you will only buy today if they let you run the test course with the vehicle in reverse and the sways removed. If you start getting pushed begin to ask dumb questions like: "Will my Freelander wheels fit the Disco?", "I hate the new lights. Can you put on some headlights from an older model?", "Can I get this in purple-fade-to-green paint?"

There are many tactics you can use to save a buck or two...

Very ready for you Randy. I was hoping to do the same... wait until 2004 model end and get a nice deal on one of the last true discoveries. CDL, 4.6, in dash CD (on S).
They don't do owner loyalty that often. It's been pretty long running this time, though, so maybe Ford is changing its discounting philosophy. We never used to have early-out lease programs before, either. That's a Ford thing that we can use now. It's so hard to say what strategy LR will take with Ford behind the scenes. This is the first real year where Ford's made any difference.
I am very much hoping they keep up owner loyalty for 2004. It is such a wonderful thing. $2000 is a lot off of a new car! ...and the dealer doesn't lose anything by giving it to you, so it's just a win-win situation all around.

Tell you what Alyssa, if you get wind that the loyalty thing is going to go away, let me know...and all this begs the question, if you have 2 Rovers already will they give you twice as much loyalty discount? LOL

Wow, great advice and response. I've been lurking a while and have only posted a few times on the Freelander category before, that section of DiscoWeb is pretty dead. Apparently you Disco guys are alive and well.

Blue, thanks for the good advice, I'll have to give that a try, hehe. If I can't get em' down I'll jump into the same boat as several of you, wait until the "Fordized" Disco comes out in 05 and snatch up one of the "old fashion" 04's.

Good buyers story: I bought my Hippo while on a busienss trip in California. I had been looking for a used one (02) that looked right to me. I spotted one early in the morning on a lot in Pasadena (Symes) and left a very low cash offer on a note stuck in the door. Got a call a few hours later accepting my offer, I picked up the Hippo after my busienss function later that day and drove it home to Maryland. If you really want to bond with your car, drive it cross country by yourself, my wife thinks I have a mistress now! :-)

Disco purchase to be continued...

I am for the multiplied owner loyalty!!!

Alyssa and I actually had the idea of "selling" my 88 rangie to everyone who was buying a truck for a song and then buying it back at a discount, less entrepenural heads prevailed :-(

It applies at least to 87 rangies and up, and I am sure if pressed you could pull it off on a series truck too.

Randy, 04s will be cheap, give it a little while. Although IIRC the 99 DIs were actually cheapest a bit before the end and then rover dropped the huge incentive (at the time I was about 2 hours late on a 99 SD with no options for something astronomically low), so waiting for the very last second might not be the ticket.

Blue: Alyssa is smart but she is also inherently good which is unusual in a car sales person. She uses her inteligence to get the person a better deal rather than make more $$$$.

Ron
