I'm chimming in on everything tonight. My D2 stereo is picking up noise from the engine. In past cars I knew this was because of cheap RCA cables and such. Has this happened to anyone, and do you have an easy solution. I dont care enough to have a pro look at it, but it would be great to get rid of the additional noise so I could hear the really loud going at it better.

Its your grounding some place in the car.. that or your radio ground wire is grounded some way.. some how in contact with your engine.. they actually sell filters at your local audio shop to take out that noise... so instead of trying to trace wires you can buy the filter .. its like 15.00

GOod Luck

I had the same problem a couple years ago. I checked my plug wires and one of them was bad the insulation cracked. So I just replaced them all and the noise was gone.

Yep, spark-plug wires..... when I start hearing the static on the radio, it's time for new wires. :-)

Sometimes not just bad plug wires, but if they are resting on the firewall that could cause engine noise.

I notice that on my 97 Disco I hear a humming and hear a "boom" type sound when I hit the breaks. The sound comes from my rear speakers. The sound is gone if I turn off my stereo.... But re-appears if my sereo is on.

Is it an aftermarket stereo? Is the Aux. or Hot wire tapped into the power wire for the brake lights?

If it's not plugs and wires, your alternator may be going bad. Have it tested.

no It is the stock disco stereo... 6 disc changer under passenger seat is also stock. I have been having this problem for over a year. I just got a new alternator 2 months ago and it still happens.

My guess is still a short-try the primary ignition system first (i.e. plugs, wires, coilpaks) If no luck, move on to connections for alternator, starter, ignition switch, etc.

My 2 cents-
