I have had my 95 disco about 5 years now, its been offroad a fair bit, unfortuantly not much in the last 6 months. I recently had to do a fix when I stopped, put it in park and when I came back it wouldn't budge from park. I ripped the console out, and filed off the metal pin that was the safety switch by the shifter, when I got back to civilization, I replaced the switch by the brake pedal, but haven't dug back into the to replace the switch (and dont want to if I dont have to). The other day I went to put in in low and no luck, it will go in High Lock fine but wont budge to neutral or low. I recently went under the truck, pulled the 2 electrical plugs on the transfer case, hopeing this might be the culprit, but no luck. I'm at a loss, did my trail fix cause this problem? If so, any idea how to fix it? If not, I dont think the transfer case is stuck to do lack of use, its only been 6 months. Suggestion, opinions advice? |

I dunno about your problem, but I do recommend going into low once or twice a week, in traffic is a good time to 'play'. Also D2 owners may like to descend a steep hill in HDC once a month to keep it exercised. Dean |

Tcase could easily have seized. I do not know what the relationship between your trail fix and current problem would be, but that doens't mean there isn't one. Do a search for seized linkage, and check into that. |

if it seized, would I be able to put it in 4H Lock though? I woudl think that it would seize the whole thing. |

Scott There are two distinct linkages. One operates the T'case locking and one operates the High/Low range. My Lock function worked well but I could not get it into low range until I took out the console and lubed and freed up the linkage. Now it will go into low but my neutral chime stays on constantly in low. That's next on the agenda. Best Always Alden |

did you go to at this from the top or from underneath? Any pics of the different linkages by chance? |

Scott I did it from above. Taking out the console is not that hard. Use the write up on Expedition Exchange's tech section for installing a CDL in a DII. It has excellent photos and illustrations. Tells how to remove the console too. The major difference I found was that with the Disco I, the automatic trans cable need not be disconnected. Just lay the shifter to the side. Have plenty of PB blaster or Kroil to free up the linkage if necessary. I was able to get a vise grip on the lever at the transfer case once the console was apart. Best Always Alden |
