My deductible for glass is $250. My wife's 00 DII heated windshield now has an 8 inch crack running across it, and it's getting longer now that it's 3 below 0. My question is this: retail, those windshields are around $1,500, I think. I can get them for $390. Do I try and get the insurance company to pay the $390 and we both save money, or do I just buck up the $250 deductible?

Follow your gut instinct here. If you can get one for $390 then your insurance carrier will take your $250 deductible and apply it leaving a balance of $140 that they pay. Insurance carriers are masters at finding cheap and rebuilt parts. Just make the claim or pay the $390 yourself.

Andrew,

Darren didn't tell me that you were a two Disco family!

JP

ps - LRDS replaced my windshield under warranty due to crack, which shorted heating elements.

That is why I have $0 on Comprehensive (i.e window coverage). That way it doesn't cost me any money out of pocket at the time of repair....I pay for it in the long run if I have no claims, but on the average I make out.

Jack:

The only reason Darren knows is because right when we got it, we had the mysterious draining battery problem, and he had to wait to hunt. He doesn't like being told he has to wait to shoot stuff.

I'm still kind of mulling it around, so we'll see what happens. Thank you for all your input.
