I've had three Disco 1's and am looking for some information. I've read through most of the old posts, but am looking for some sanity checking.

1) 97 Disco SD with 111K Miles on it. When dry no issues to speak of, but when wet clunking souond from front left tire area (bushings, someting else?). I checked bearings etc, but can't make it clunk when dry or wrangling on it.

2) I have the extra light switches to wire in the auxillary lamps, and fog lamps. One to work on low beam, and the other to work on high beam. Now to the type of lights to implement. Has anybody ever bought the front cowling from roverparts.com and done the SD to SE type conversion?

3) What years was the 5 speed delivered on the Disco (I think 95 and 96)?

4) Has anybody ever built a Turbo Diesil US Spec or gray market Disco that could pass?

Thanks Sam

sam,
96 was the last major production year for NAS discos. there were small numbers in 97, and i've heard of 1 or 2 in '98.
i think the folks at east coast rover are working on a TD conversion. check out: http://www.eastcoastrover.com/
2 out of 4 ain't bad, eh?
cheers,
carl

The knocking in the wet may be loose or worn body mounts, moving when lubed by water.
For the lights Ive seen them upgraded to the later type but why not just buy a loom with relays and if even more light neede fit 90/110 globes?

1. Ill allow someone else the opportunity... (Blue?)

2. Yes, I know that people have done that conversion. Got to ask yourself if its worth it... I would encourage you to remove the airdam and throw some lights on a bumper or something. Is auxillary lighting your desire, or actually driving in fog?

3. The 5 speed D1 was an R380, and I believe it was available 1994 to 1997, becoming increasingly rarer. That could be inaccurate.

4. The Tdi can be had, and it can be legal. Just depends on how bad you want it, and how deep your pockets are.

I'll answer question 1, because my 97 does the same from time to time. On mine, that clunking sound appears whenever the radius arm bolt works itself loose. Tightening them quiets things up.

Question 2, Why? Unless you never intend to go off road, you will be removing that air dam anyway.

Question 3 and 4 has already been answered.

As to the question of the AirDam.You are most likely right that some day it will come off. The wife is driving it primarily now and she uses it as a school bus. A very heavy and hearty school bus. Kids don't miss school cause we can't get there.

I'm looking at adding LIGHT to the truck. Driving around Indiana in the dark is DARK. At least in Colorado I had stars to give some background light. My other 97SE (sold) had the stock driving lights (wimpy) but they filled in pretty good. I have a set of PIAA 85X, and some 910's from another project should I want a lot of light.
