I just got my truck ( 2000 D2 ) back from the dealership. I had the 45K service done and I also wanted them to listen and fix the whhrrrring noise I get from the one of the pulleys when I am idling and warm. When I went to pick it up today they told me they changed the pulley. The noise is not there and in fact the engine is running a lot smoother.(This can also be becasue of the new belt.) Anyway, here is my question, when looking at the papers with the list of the work they did, I saw that the Jocker Pulley was changed, because of the wonderful knowledge I get from you guys I assumed it was called the idler pulley. Even the mechanic who came out to hear it told me that the pulley is plastic and that the new ones are metal, this I knew already, I just wanted the dealership to give me the steel one. But it is not listed as idler, but as Jockey. Is this the same pulley but just a different name that LR gives it? Also the mechanic showed me the pulley that was faulty, it is the one on the left near the battary tray, but when I went to look at it when I came home it was still plastic but it had a steel bolt holding it to the block. Is the dealership playing games on me?? One more thing, service guy told me that the battery is old and put a new one for me, only problem is its an Interstate, I wanted an Optima because I have 2 Hella 4000s. Will this battery last? One good thing though is that they are changing my front driveshaft under warrenty!!!! Thanks for the help guys.

There are two "idler" pulleys. One near the alternator. One near the a/c comp and ACE pump if you have it. Both originaly plastic. Both get replaced with metal ones. Maybe they replaced the other one. Or it was replaced with old stock. Interstate distributes the Optima. There are plenty of trucks out there running a lot more than a couple of lights off of the direct replacement Interstate. I would prefer an Optima, but the regular Interstate should be fine for now.
