After a weekend in Baja my new 4" bump stops are in hilarious condition. The mounts on both sides of the truck just got tweaked hard to one side and you can see the spring also ate up part of the stop. Im thinking Ill have to bypass the original mount and bold them through the truck and to a backing plate (if this is even possible).
Wondering if anyone else has dealt with this.
Cheers.
Heres the link to the pics. http://www.roverholic.com/pages/2/index.htm

You want to hear about my home made bump stop? A block of wood, some thick foam and duct tape.. The wood was attached to the stock plate using a large but and bolt, the foam was held onto the block with lots of duct tape.... it worked fine for a long time 'till I got tired of seeing what a shitty job I did. I finally removed the bump stops and trimmed the bottom of the rear door ... no rubbing (running 265/75 MTs on GCR 16x7). I'm too embarassed to post pics of my creation...

Wood blocks and duct tape! That sounds like something I would have come up with! You should see how I fixed my radiator hose...
Bubble gum, duct tape and zip ties! Didn't leak at all after that though, even towed a race truck 20 miles in 4 low.

Watched the Baja 1000 on Friday and spent some time up at Mike's Sky Ranch. Saturday night we camped at Salsipuedes just above Ensenada.
One of the best trips ever! We should all head down for the San Felipe 250 in March.

with bumpstops that long i am thinking the leverage is so great nothing is going to last all that long. especially a jelly like polyemer.

I wondered if anyone went to watch the Baja 1000... Too bad, I was off work on Friday, could've joined the party.

How much was the stay at Mike's?

We camped so it was only $8 but if you stay at the ranch it's $50 per person and it includes dinner and breakfast.
I should have posted something here or on the club website about the race...next time.
Rob, I think you're right. I think I'll bolt them through the truck to a strong backing plate and if that doesn't work move on to wood and duct tape:-)

Wood and duct tape will never let you down...
Did you have time to go up the mountain?

No, that's for next time. I'd also like to run it from Hwy 3 all the way through to Hwy 1.

hold on
there's no driving up to the top of the mountain - you can only drive so high, and hike the rest.

You too can go 100 mph on a dirt road :-)

Coop,
Don't think I haven't thought about it! Being as how I'm a cheap bastard I'm sure I'll never put them on.
Peter,
There is a road that dead ends into the mountain but there's another that will eventually kick you out at Hwy 1. It's about 50 miles.
