I have an '03 Disco S. It didn't come with the cold climate package so I don't have heated seats. I bought my Disco used and it was such a good deal I figured I could sacrifice my desire for heated seats. I was looking through Rover Connection's inventory one day and noticed they sell the stuff to install heated seats. I decided I ought to be able to install the stuff and so I ordered the heat pads and switches from Rover Connection. I have two questions?

1) Can anyone who has installed the heat pads tell me a good way to unclip the front and back plastic clip holding the seat cover on the seat cushion? The side clips aren't a problem. I got the passenger side cover off, but I almost completely broke both clips. I still have to do the driver side and any tips would be much appreciated.

2) Do Discovery heated seats suck compared to other cars with heated seats? When I got the passenger side hooked up it heated the pads, but not very hot. I remember riding in a Cadillac Escalade and nearly burning the flesh off my butt with the heated seats. Of course the Escalade does have two heat settings, and I was on the hotter one. So what's the deal. Do they just not get very hot?

Thanks.

JRS

My '99 Disco only heats the bottom couching - both driver and passenger.

Definitedly nice to have on while the truck warms up.

Justin-

1) In order to unclip, compress the seat foam, then take the slack out of the upholstery by pushing the upholstery down towards the clip. You should be able to bunch up enough material to allow the hook to clear when you unhook it.

2) The Disco seat heater elements get very warm, and are very comfortable. There are times though when they get noticably warm, almost too warm. The Disco seems to have a heating cycle where the element warms up then cools off for a bit, then warms up again. I can't confirm this by any other means but it's what my rear end feels.

Sometimes the seats can get too warm but still like to have them. It would be nice it there was a low / high setting as in some other vehicles. Its funny I looked up the spec in the manual and it states, "the seats achieve and then maintain a predetermined temperature between 79F and 97F." I asked the LR dealership at one point since this is a huge range and what determines the predetermined temperate but they had no idea.

Justin, i have a 99 disco II and they go to 99F and then shut down, i will give you one good tip however, don't leave them on when the car is off. can drain the battery and with mine the driver side broke. but know they do get toasty and you'll definately feel it.

They dont stay on in my 01 D2 when the car is off, but the radio sometimes will come on! They do get pretty hot and they will do what Craig said, kinda go in a cycle, at least IMHO.

I purchased the "kit" from Rover Connection. Two switches and a new face plate for $60. The face plate lifts off (no tools), remove four screws and the switch mounting plate is off... The pigtails for the seat heater switches are mixed in with the window controls. Plug them in, stick your head under one front seat... listen for the relay to click as you turn the switch on/off... and you know which is left and right. Put it all together... now my ass is warm on the way to work.

I don't know if I was just lucky... or if because it's an SE... but it was VERY easy!

Traveltoad, are you saying the 2003 seats are prewired, and all you have to do is find the wires and switches and hook 'em up? WOW! If so, I'll try to find the switches on Rover Connection's site and be in business. Thanks.

That's how it was on my truck. If you want to check it out before buying the switches... I think the switch is the same (less the little light) as the Hazard switch. Pull it out of your dash... plug it in to the seat pigtail and see if you get a hot ass!

Yep! Thank you, Traveltoad. Now if I can get someone at Rover Connection to answer the phone I'll be in business. (Kit is not shown on their website). You're a great help, like many on DiscoWeb.

can anyone confirm that the heating elements are tied in somehow with your selected temp on climate control?

iv'e had the temp set to 68, and the seat temp was mild, with heat set to 78, and the seats seemed much warmer.

any validation?

Jesse, based on a pyrometer reading (sort of like a thermometer) the 2003 Discovery heated seats do NOT vary with the internal temp settings.

I ordered the "roverconnection" seated seat kit, got it yeseterday and today toasty buns. Probably the easiest install ever. The heated seat wires are paired with the driver's side windows which is the drivers side heated seat and vise versa. Highly recomended and I live in FLORIDA!
