Hello all, please be patient with me since I am a newbie in Discos. I am in the process of deciding on a purchase of a 1992 TDi Disco. 5 speed, with about 80,000km, very good condition. Can anybody please give me an honest opinion on how reliable they really are? Assuming the vehicle is going to be properly maintained, along with common sense during offroading, am I going to expect a lot of "suprises"? What are their weaknesses? Assuming it will be used as a daily driver as well as an occasional offroader. I don't mind doing all the regular maintenances, but what I am looking for is a vehicle that I can trust. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Any 11 year old vehicle can make you mad with little problems eg rubber hoses rotting out etc etc etc....an 11year old vehicle with just 50k miles on it (assuming genuine) is one that I'd drive for two to three months so you can get to know it before either modifying it for off road. No point spending $$$$ on extra toys until you've gone through the vehicle to your satisfaction. the 200Tdi engine was a good one, albeit one that sounds like a bag of nails...the lt 77s gearbox is fine for the engine though not brilliant. Just go through the vehicle looking for leaks. Does the clutch release only at the end of its travel? if so the clutch could be close to done. Go through the bodywork carefully to spot rust, floor, behind the headlights etc. And above all join your Land Rover club! |
