There are two rockford fosgate speakers on ebay. Just wondering if you guys think they would make a big difference in the stock stereo setup if I replaced just these two speakers in the front door? And will the fit? Or is the door not deep enough?

Thanks
Sean

not sure, but MOST 4 inch speakers won't fit. The speaker depth of most better speakers are going to be too deep for the LR doors. I'm talking about a Disco 1. It'll make a difference, but not if you're looking for bass or midrange, which you won't get any of.

not much of a stereo connoseur but i think you will really rear the difference if you upgrade your amp. your stock head unit gives a limited amount of power to the speakers and whatever speakers you have, won't really make much difference. i think the stock unit has a factory installed amp??? dunno but definately, when you have a good amp... you'll really hear the difference between stock speakers and those RF's.

Isn't the stock amp somewhere under the dash? I ask because my Disco came with an aftermarket head unit from the first owner, and I was thinking about just changing the amp and the rear speakers. Btw, what are the rear speakers, 5 or 6"? And hey, you should look at kenwood KFC-1079ie. they have a really shallow mounting depth, and cost $50/pair at bestbuy.

Yeah, i see now that they were 4 inch speakers they dont fit. I found out that they were 6 1/2s. I found a nice set of polk audio ones. They are 6 1/2s and the fitment guide on their webpage says that they will fit. But i am still unsure caus of the depth of teh door..

Any thoughts on these speakers? I want to leave the factory deck in the truck, and go with a nice amp, to power 4 of these 6s. And a sub box in the rear, unhook the door subs, they rattle the door to much, very annoying.
thanks
Sean

I'm confused, A Disco 1 has 4" speakers on the front door and rears. And 6.5 inch "subs" on the back door. I have Polk's in the front and Infinity's in the back. My suggestion, save your money and just get something cheap with good high's. You don't need something expensive, because they are just 4 inch speakers. I don't have mine amped at all (I have the crossover on my stereo to make them only play highs), so no real need for an amp. Just invest in a small sub and you're set.

So this Polk webpage is wrong? It says that 6 1/2s fit.

Have y'all gone to www.sounddomain.com? You can enter the vehicle (i.e. 1994 Discovery), and it'll give you the selection of all of the speakers that will fit dead-on, plus some options that *might* fit with some work. Just a thought.

No, a Disco 1 (mine atleast, 97 SD) has 4 inchers front and back, small tweets on the front pillars, and 6.5 inch woofers. Just look at your car, 4 inchers are pretty damn small. I got $10 Polk's from Fry's, and they sound pretty good I think. Yet again, I have an awesome deck too, but anything should be better than stock

I have a friend who built me a custom box for a 10 inch woofer (I used an MTX 8000 and it sounds awesome), that fits perfectly in one of your side cubby holes (you have to sacrifice one cubby box). E-mail me if you're interested.
