my 95 disco won't idol and dies when i go to stop. In park it idols up and down. The obd says it is Code 44 - Lambda sensor A - left bank. Is this a o2 sensor? By the way thanks for making a place for us disco owners to go and talk about our problems. For a while I thought I was all alone.

Yes Lambda is O2

replace and see if it fixes the idle.

Erase the code and see what happens. Worked wonders for me, but I still need a valve job (going to the doctor on Tuesday)

I had the same problem, I replaced the oxygen sensor that helped but did not cure the problem. Then I replced the IAC better but not 100%, then the fuel filter now it's 100%. If the idle was good before the code, the O2 sensor should do the trick. 95 D1 with 80,000 miles on it

vacum leak, check to see if the hoses to the plenum are in good shape. also check vacum line to cruise control, usual suspects. vacum leaks can throw funky codes as they can effect fuel trim (air/fuel ratio)wich can fool the o2 into thinking theres a problem. There is! but not necesarily the o2 thats bad. Its rare to see an o2 effect the idle to that extreme. in fact it really shouldnt. an o2 acts like the nose for the ecu. by monitoring gasses and sending final fuel trim info back to the Ecu. when it senses a problem, and tries to make an adjustment and the adjustment doesnt change the ratio, it will set a code.

When was the last time you changed your distributor cap & rotor? I just went through this on my '95 Disco - difficult to start and wouldn't idle. I changed plug wires, ignition amp, vehicle speed sensor, throttle position sensor, stepper motor, fuel temp sender, coolant temp sender, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump and fuel filter. I tightened every hose clamp and changed out vaccuum lines. Nothing fixed the problem. In frustration, I changed what visually appeared to be ok - the cap & rotor. I think the spring in the cap was weak, giving poor contact to the rotor. This morning it started right up and ran great. Now I have lots of spares.
