Well, I got 3 of the 4 Rivnuts to bite & expand during my ladder instalation last night. Unfortunatly the 4th Rivnut just spins inside the drilled hole and won't bite enough to expand. Does anyone had any tips before I spend $$ on a Rivnut tool that I will use once? Right now I'm using the homemade tool described on this site. Thanks, Lance |

get another rivnut and try again. I did the same thing with my ladder install (3 went fine, 1 screwed up), so I pulled out the messed up one and put in a new one. Or, if you can't get the one you put in out, just put a lot of pressure on it (press it up against the truck so it can move less), and start screwing. Seems like a rivnut tool is a waste of money for such a simple easy thing. My tool was a long bolt, washer and a nut. |

You want to stop the rotation of the rivnut. But you knew that. So here's a comment that might be helpful, depending on what eqpt you have around. Use a second nut to butt up against the rivnut. Put a second spanner on that and hold that nut from rotating. Now all you have to do is find a way to keep the second nut and the rivnut mechanically attached to each other (from a rotational perspective). Then the rivnut will not rotate either. If friction alone does not work, try roughing up the surfaces a little. If that does not work I guess you could put a temporary spot weld on it. |

Thanks. I temporarily put a rubber expanding nut in place until I can find another rivnut to try. Lance |
