Title is pretty explanatory. Can I put higher wattage bulbs in without frying the harness? Thanks.....It is a D2

I've been running them for about a month, too soon to say for sure, but so far nothing problematic. '99 D2

The ones i found were like 80/100 rather than the 45/65. Seems like a big jump, but should give a nice increase in light.

Check out EE at:

Thanks Victor, I guess between the price of the bulbs and the harness above I would not think it is worth it.

Matt,

You could always make your own harness for a fraction of the cost.

Use the power from the factory harness to trigger a relay which connects the lamp directly to the battery using thicker gauge wire. Don't forget to thicken up the ground wire too, and add a fuse at the battery end of the wire.

Aternatively, you could go whole hogg and get a set of good driving lamps (>/=100w).

Victor, that is probably what I will do--get some driving lamps. The bulbs were PIAA bulbs so they were expensive to begin with. Dean, do you mean 80/100? 80/80 just does not make sense.
Thanks everyone
Matt

I run 80/100s through a Painless Performance wiring kit.Amazing difference in light intensity. I had the bulbs first and than fitted the harness after the left side bulb connector melted. No problems since and the light is even brighter.

Matt,

FYI, I just noticed a great article in the tech section of this site. It has a great schematic and even a parts list. The URL is something like http://www.discoweb.org/lights

Trevor
Do you have many problems with people flashing their high beams, or is the focus of the lens sufficient to avoid this?

cheers

Been running my hyperwhite with the blueish tint to them for about a month. No one has flashed me nor have a been pulled over for them. Most ricer boys that have them get pulled over but cops in VA just over look me and think its like the angel eyes on the new bemmers or something. 12.99 plus shipping off ebay it really does help the vision at night i didnt think it would make that great of a change but it did.

ARB sell a plug in harness including relays that allows the use of larger wattage globes without compromising existing wiring or fuses.
Got it in mine.
Part no; MOO2.
