Is it your handle or the actual door? If the handle is sticking when you depress it, and it doesn't return to the normal position then it is an easy fix. Gently remove the Land Rover emblem on the handle cover and spray some WD-40, graphite or lithium on the mechanism. Exercise it a few times and it will be like new again. Or take a shotgun and blast it repeatedly. B.K. |

My 1999 Disco had worn-out hinges - it might be the hinges. Once replaced, things got a lot easier. But, I did not have trouble with the latch - that worked fine - BUT, once open, the door was extremely difficult to operate. |

Make sure that your latch assembly isn't getting loose in the door. When I bought my '95 D1 this summer, the back door would not open...after taking off the interior panel and releasing it...I found that the only problem was that the latching mechanism had worked it's way loose and wouldn't release. Easy fix. |

Hi usally when the doors refuse to open there is a small spring in the locking mechanism that has snapped.L R dont do a replacement spring just a complete lock, but it is easy enough to make your own from another small spring. You need to take off the inside door cover and remove the latching mechanism, there are several linkages and plastic clips on it so if you have a digital camera take a few pix as you go along. This spring is only 10mm in diameter and is easly missed if it has snapped and fallen into the door frame. I will see if I can find any pix on the web for you to take a look at. cheers wizard |
