Two wks ago I took my '95 disco into local shop to check out a noise when turning right. Got it back after they 'found nothing but tightened some bolts', 2 days later have same noise - but now on driving straight and turning left. (Much louder when cornering left.) Noise sounds like the sound of a guy down the street mowing his lawn on a quiet day. It is speed related, happens also if shifted into neutral, happens both on acceleration / deceleration. Sound like a vibration but I cant feel it on the steering wheel or gear lever. Any ideas welcome.. Jaco

I had this recently. Assuming the hubs are similar to my RRC's, check that the ABS sensor is not pushed down too far. You can move it up about a 4-5mm to check - this will cause the ABS light to come on. If it fixes your problem move it back down to a point where the ABS light is off and the noise does not come back. Sound could also be a wheel bearing. Check for looseness by jacking the tire and attempting to rock the tire at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions. When were they last repacked? |
