Any ideas what the fix is.

A buddy did not stop the truck when shifting from D to R on tha auto, ever since then the drive only works with the diffs locked, when diffs are not locked then it appears to slip out of gear.

Is this transfer or ??

The transfercase center diff-lock is after the transmission. Have someone look under the truck with the center diff unlocked and in drive. If a front or rear driveshaft is turning and the truck will not move you have a diff, axle, or CV joint problem. If the driveshaft isn't turning the problem is most likely in the transfercase.
