Anyone out there ever tried transplanting the 4.6 V8 (As in the 2003 DII) to a 4.0 V8 auto DII?
I want to do it, but am not sure if the ECU and ZF gearbox software will cope with the altered fueling demand and additional torque. Some folk say yes, others say no, but I've yet to find someone who has done it firsthand!

The 4.6L engine does have a higher rated version of the ZF. The ECU does need to be rechipped too from what I've read or the engine runs too leanly.

This is what I've been able to ascertain so far:
If one simply fits a factory OEM 4.6, the ECU copes just fine - according to Chris at RPi in the UK. It's only if one plays with cams, compression, etc that there is problems.
I'm told that the ECU on the Thor engine cannot be upgraded, remapped or "chipped"
I believe the newer TD5 and 4.6V8 have an uprated torque sensor on the ZF, but that's all. Some folk say the older sensor will cut fuel if it thinks there's too much torque from the engine?
There's so much controvesy and speculation out there, but no hard facts - that's why I'm asking for some direct experience.

Well getting back to the transmissions the 4.0 has the 4hp22 and the 4.6 has the 4hp24. I think the 4hp24 was carried over from the RR along with the 4.6 for the 2004 Disco.
