Back when I bought my DII 4+ years ago I said to myself, "Self. That stupid little plastic doo-dad that calls itself a cupholder come ashtray come whatever is really just an extravagance and an unreasonable waste of good payload." So I promptly removed it. I then reasoned that the space thereby gained would be *perfect* for installing switches and other controls and that I needed to get a local metal fab shop to cut and bend me some aluminum to fit the existing mountings and provide me with a flat panel on which I could drill and mount miscellaneous things. I then further reasoned that time heals all, and that if I waited around a bit someone else would have the same bright idea, only they would market it, and then I could buy it off of them at a much reduced price versus a custom creation. Since then I have been a little busy and haven't been paying much heed to such things. So. Question for the assembled company is this: *does* anyone know of such an available item? (and if not -- here's an idea for any willing entrepeneur out there, so long as they give me first dibs on their product) |

Hi Don - The link to the thread below shows how I made use of the cupholder space on my D1 using an Autometer gauge panel. Someday when I'm motivated I'd like to post this installation's details in the Tech section... http://www.discoweb.org/cgi-bin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=17&post=146435#POST146435 |
