Weird weird.....When I drive, my 96 discovery feels like its choking at around 2000 rpm. Has a very hard time getting past it if it does. Put the truck in neutral and it revs perfectly fine....Its like it sputtering VERY badly..... But put it in neutral and seems to run great? Some kinda sensor maybe? Regards Sean |

Either the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) or possible the fuel filter. Could be other things, but that is where I would start. |

Now that sounds just like what I went through in August... it was the crank sensor on mine. Reved fine up to 2G then it sounded like it was "loaded" up or something and would sputter down and idle fine. Repeat as many times as you want - same outcome. If you don't take it to a dealer, be sure to take it to a garage that can read ALL the codes. Hope it's not your crank sensor. The labor mabe that a real bear of a bill. |

Change the fuel filter. It's an easy DIY job. Hit the end nuts with some PB blaster before hand. |

fuel pump might be dying. try the fuel filter. if the symptoms come back in a few weeks it's the pump. i have found with the dying fuel pump that the pressure is less than where it should be and replacing anything that can increase flow will temporarily fix the problem. rd |

sean, i had a similar problem, however only after rain. amperage across the fuel pump fuse was high (normal 4.5, mine was over 6) and the pump unit (under panel in cargo area) was warm. replaced the pump and so far so good. compression at the fuel rail was also low. try those diagnostics if you can. any relation to rain for yours? cheers, carl |
