I am planing on moving from Alaska to Phoenix, Az.
My question is...what do I need to do to help my 95 Disco accept it's new home without any prolbems. ie. radiator cap, fluids etc. I have a pretty good idea but would appreciate input from anyone, thank you

Not much, good a/c will make you happy and a good radiator will keep the truck happy too
Doesn't get as hot as AZ or as cold as Alaska here in New England, but I some nights up north I've had -40deg F starts and 90 and one day of 100deg F. It can handle both, proper maintenance is the key.....

Sterling, I live in the Southern NV/West AZ area along the Colorado River. Average summer temps here are 115-120+. No big deal for your rover. Just be sure that your radiator has been maintained and that you have the proper fluids (which I imagine are the same as being in AK - I'm guessing).

Honestly, I just keep mine maintained according to the owners manual. No problems at all. I do run thicker oil in the summer though. Mobil 1 15w50 in the summer and 10w30 in the winter. That's about it.

Oh yeah, buy one of those sunshades for your windshield. It'll save your dash and seats from the extreme hot sun and it'll keep your car several degrees cooler (meaning your interior will only go up to 130 or so vs 150).

Make sure your A/C works too!!

I moved from AK to NM a few years ago. Once I got over the big enviromant change I loved it there. I told the Step Bros. there in Anchorage what I was fixing to do, so they went over it real good for me. I ended up going down through Montana and back west to Auburn WA, then all the way east to Ohio and back west Las Vegas before stopping in NM. A few things though - the NM sun killed my paint, and I'm going to blame the heat on curling my dash, but that kit fixed it up fine. Hope you are driving out - British Columbia is darn near the prettiest place on the planet. Once you get your "desert eyes" I hope you'll love it in the great SW!

Have a safe trip.

prepare to be defrosted

it's been low 50's in the AM and high 70's in the afternoon...and of course, "sunny"...not bad at all.

leave the snow tires behind

can run some thicker engine/gear oil if you want (I just run 10w30 year round and 84-140 gear year round). You can also cut that antifreeze with a bit more water.

other than that, it's the same old same old

give us a shout when you get to town

My thanks to all for the input, very helpful indeed. Can't wait...my wife was transfered there and the grandkids are there too, love Alaska but ready to go. Again thanks to all who responded. Sterling
