Has anyone ever removed that rear (resinator) muffler thing and just added a straight pipe?

Yes, please search.

I have, but I added a flowmaster at the same time, so I can't speak for a noise difference. I have heard it create a nice rumble on some trucks, and some people say it makes no difference at all. Hack it on off.

Get rid of it. I added a flowmaster and cut the junk off. Sounds much better.

We know it sounds much better Jimmy. But you never know what kind of expectations the dude has in his mind.

I recently cut mine off on my Disco II...much deeper sound, but not much louder at all. You should route it via the quarter panel like this:

Jamil, not to be negative here but would that not discolor or peel the paint from the heat of the exhaust around the hole in the fender? Just a thought.

Scott, I've had my exhaust exiting through my quarter panel for almost 2 years now. The only discoloration is from the soot of the exhaust, and that washes off.

My thought was, just to go to a local muffler shop to add a piece of pipe....does it any HP, due to less backpressure?? Could be a stupid question....but you never know.

I think its no secret that disco owners have to pay a lot for repairs and gas... the cheapest solution that I found was...if you have a dremel, but the carbon fiber blade and do it yourself...I did both center and rear mufflers/resinator in about a hr. U-clamp it until you make friends with a welder and then have him weld it. It cost me less than 20 bucks start to finish. it sounds nice and I felt more power...others may disagree

Had to cut mine off after crushing a section. didn't run new pipe until just recently. It was a little louder, but not much.
