Does anybody know of a different CD changer that will work with the factory wiring in a 97D1?? |

Different than stock? You'll see the stock ones for sale on this board occasionally, and on Ebay as well. There were a couple different models used. I dont know much more than that. |

The 97D1 uses a pioneer cd changer. Unfortunately, you are forced to use the land rover changer as the connector is specific to the stock unit. I have heard there are some bmw changers that might work in the disco but can't confirm. |

I've been wondering this as well. I thought I read somewhere that the series 2 was Alpine. I've been reading the archives but am still wondering if I can just buy a changer from Circuit City and the chances it would work in my 2k. Any ideas? |

I just ordered a CD changer from these guys. I haven't received it yet but I'll let you know how it works out. http://store.autotoys.com/cgi-bin/wfp53024.storefront/3fd6a2340027f1f827454200c1 48064e/Product/View/LANDROVER6DISCOEM |

Another project I keep meaning to get round to working on is the question of what the control link protocol looks like for the D2 changers. Presumably some kind of serial data stream. I have not "used" my D2 CD changer in years now (I use a separate MP3 player). However I still need to keep it plumbed in and happy and running a CD. Because if it thinks it isn't playing (and when changing between tracks) it will tell the audio system to mute the CD input signal. And if you disconnect the control connection it doesn't work at all. Now that I am worrying about water ingress, I really want to deal with things that are lying underneath the front seats... and so... One of these days I will have to attack the cabling with a logic analyser followed by a serial port. Of course if anyone has the proprietary information here from LR or Alpine I would be ever so grateful. |

I installed the autotoys.com kit in my D2 two years ago and it still works great. really easy install. it was my first experience with an audio install. took me four hours(taking my sweet time). |
