Need help. after driving my 97 disco w/ 90k miles and park it, turn ignition off, than try to restartit 5-10 min later it won't start. i have to wait for 20 min or so, than it will start. doesn't appear to be battery, alternator or starter problem. disco always starts; engine just needs to cool down. would this be a bad duel pump relay? if so, where is it and how does it look like? what's the cost, if that's even the problem?

thanks folks.

I have had the same problem on my 97 but normally mine will start within 5 min. I think it is vapor lock which is created in the fuel line, fuel injected aircraft have the same problem.

Sounds like a bad fuel temp sensor.....

Fuel temperature sensor
The fuel temperature sensor is inserted in the fuel rail and measures fuel and fuel rail temperatures. During engine cranking at high temperatures, the ECM increases fuel supply, and opens the throttle disc via the stepper motor to aid hot starting.

What happens if you unscrew the fuel tank cap, release the pressure, and then restart?

thanks for the response guys. talked w/ a rover specialist and mentioned perhaps, it would be the starter malfunctioning since the rover is almost six yrs old. what do you think?

joey -

sounds plausible with the fuel temp sensor. how do i get more info on that part, instillation? thanks.

I would of said that it could only be the starter if it didn't crank over. If the starter is cranking the engine and it just won't start its going to be one of two things fuel or spark :-)

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter ?

Talk about deja-vu!! I had the same starting probs and its possible that the solenoid on the starter is bad (my car wouldn't turn for atleast 10 mins). I swapped my starter whilst getting mine repaired and had no starting probs (I now have fuel pressure/pump issues - what a trade off!!)
If you jiggle the thin wire that clips onto the solenoid, does that have any affect?

I had the same problem on my 94 Disco. It would only do this on hot days though. I found weak fuel pressure and replaced the fuel pump. SInce then it has been running fine. However in Colorado the weather has cooled off somewhat so I won't be 100% sure until next summer. Check your fuel pressure on the Schraeder valve of the fuel rail.

Where is the Schraeder valve on the rail? Went looking for it a few months ago and it wasn't obvious.

The valve is located on the passenger side fuel rail on the Fuel Injected Discos. About mid way back you can't miss it, it should have a valve cap on it.
