Hi All My 99 disco 1 Ignition Switch will not turn at all. I have been having trouble with it not being able to get the key out. I have been using power graphite it would seem to help. Then yesterday my wife went to start it and the key would not turn. The steering wheel and shifter are lock. I am going to try taking the ignition out after work today unless some one has a better ideal. Any words on taking out the ignition would be helpful. Thanks Allen

Update I took the black covers off and I did not know where to go from there. So I start to work/play with the key and got it to trun, but now the key will not come out any more. I guess that's why it comes with the door remote lock. Allen |

Allen- Had much the same problem, had to replace it. As far as removal goes the toughest part is whacking off the shear bolts across the top of bracket that holds it to the steering column. They say use a chisel, I ended up using a cordless dremel with cut off tool (which worked well) as it was $30 from SEARS and trying to manuever the chisel and such in that tight space was a PITA. Install is a snap, and then you could think about getting your locks re-keyed, trust the battery in the remote, or carry both keys (I'm lazy, I choose option 3) I don't remember the exact cost, I wanted it in a hurry but not a dealership hurry as they were really expensive. I think I got it from AB for something around $65-80. You might try Nathan at Discount Rovers too. Hope that helps |

Thank you all for the replys. Update the key came out today but I want to replace it. Ray your points on removing the Ignition Switch will be very helpful. But for the price AB gave me a price of $420.00 way to high for me. Where can I find a one for $65-80.00? |

$420! Holy crap, this was awhile ago, but not that long ago. Let me look through my records and see, maybe it was a little more than the low price range I gave but it wasn't that bad, that's like dealer prices there. Call Nathan at Discount Rovers, he can probably give you the best price, I'll check and see if I have the info when I get home and repost if I find more. $420.00...good lord. |

I got my replacement ignition switch from www.roverlandparts.com , ask for Robert. My switch came next day which saved my life, along with the vin # in case I ever need to get a dealer cut key. I think I paid $100 including next day shipping. Good luck.. RS |
