Anyone seen the air pipes inside the Plenum chamber, to me the design of these pipes restrict the main air flow to the cylinders. The air has to travel up and inside these pipes to reach the combustion chamber. Would it be possible to increase Horse Power by cutting the pipes down a bit to allow better air flow?

can-o-worms my friend, can-o-worms!

the short answer is no,
well, no by itself, other mods would have to be done to make this really work, and in the end your still trying to squeeze orange juice out of a lemon. let's face it, these aren't rice rockets.

I concur with marc... also I guarantee your CE light will be on forever and even if you manage to get all back together

Oh, I know this is a crazy idea that no one should try, but just humor me, in theory it should work right. I mean the hole K&N logo is let more air pass through the system to get more Horse Power. Cutting down the pipes would allow more air to be forced into the Chamber right?
Mark, why do you think the Check Engine light would be on?????

actually luis suggests the MIL wil trip.
my comment implies that yes in theory that is what one tries to do when boosting engine performance (ie force more air, turbo, supercharge etc...) but in practice, simply porting the intake portion of the plenum will not gain significant improvements on its own. and here in lies the can-o-worms comment. check out the RPI site to see what lengths they go to to get marginal hp increases and then check out what they do to really make these engines scream. (it all comes done to money and reliability)
oh, and the K&N works because it lets filtered air enter the engine before the MAF which will then correctly adjusts the fuel ratios to burn with more air. the HP increases are questionable, but the systems do seem to breathe better, with better filtration.

in short, try it, and report back i'd love to see what you find.

Bazzle that is exactly what I am talking about, the pipes on the picture are smaller and wider allowing more air to flow. I guess I could go buy a spare pipe from a junk yard and cut them down to see if it would work!!!
Sorry about that marc, I meant luis why do you think the Check Engine light would come on???
Also what is the proper air to gas ratio and would there be any major problems if you ratio of air is high?? All I can think is that the gas would burn cleaner since there is more oxygen in the air!!! And maybe the idle might need to be reset, but then again the IAC valve would regulate that right?
